I go to

Balmoral
School in NZ and I am in year 5. This term we are studying culture. But our biggest culture we are learning about is Maori culture. Last week we went to a marae and had a lot of fun.We learnt about many things, weaving, poi and many more things. Now the year 5s are making board games on what roles and responsibilities people have in and around the.  It has been lots of fun. maraeWe have also been looking at what people think culture is and how different people have different ideas on that subject.I think culture is something that is a tradition that has been carried out for a long time by a group of people. That is just what I think - what do you think?  Tell me by posting a comment below. Also if you have any questions please say them and I will try to answer them about the marae or what I have been learning. Also have a think about this question-maybe you can answer it:What was the marae built for and what is the proper name for the marae?Try to answer the questions if you can!Tessa

    Hi there,

The name “marae” is the part out side the front of the whani nui. I am not quite sure how to spell it. The bulding is shaped as the ancestor of that marae. When you enter a marae you become the heart of it.

I think that culture is different countries. It is where you come from or what you believe in. Every cultue has traditions like above and I think that a new culture can not be made. Here are some more ideas on our class blog: http://room29space.edublogs.org/2007/09/08/what-does-culture-mean-to-you/#comments
